How Parents Can Use AI to Help Children Study

हिंदी में पढ़ें

Parents can use AI to prepare an easier explanation, a few practice questions or a revision activity, then check the material before sharing it. Start with a specific lesson and let the child attempt the work. The aim is to support understanding and independence, not to generate finished answers that hide what the child can do.

A book and digital learning cards

For example, a Class 4 learner can read a passage but cannot explain its main idea. A parent requests three short questions about an invented passage, reviews the answers, and asks the child to explain each response using clues from the text.

What is a useful learning cycle?

First ask the child to try. Notice one difficulty, such as understanding a word or choosing the correct operation. Ask for help with that difficulty, rather than uploading an entire report card and asking AI to judge the learner.

Then review the suggested explanation yourself. Try it with the child and finish with a new question on paper. This family routine is an editorial suggestion, not a school-prescribed method.

UNESCO’s guidance supports age-appropriate, human-led choices about educational AI. The adult still needs to decide whether the activity is suitable and follows current provider conditions. AI-S09: Read the source

What can you ask the tool?

Create four Class 4 reading questions for a short fictional story about sharing library books. Put the answers in a separate section for the adult. Include one question that asks the learner to explain why.

The expected result is material to review, not a ready-made assessment of a real child. If the story contains stereotypes, unsuitable content or a confusing answer, correct it before the lesson.

How can revision be personalised safely?

Describe a skill: “needs practice distinguishing area from perimeter.” Leave out the child’s name, admission number, diagnosis and marksheet. Ask for two easier examples and one slightly different challenge.

Choose changes from what you observe, not from a chatbot’s label that the child is “weak” or “advanced.” Teachers can help identify the next step and check whether a suggested method fits the class.

What is the teacher’s role?

A teacher may review generated questions, plan explanations and guide feedback while retaining responsibility for judgement and assessment. UNESCO’s teacher framework emphasises that professional role. AI-S10: Read the source

Ask what help is allowed on the assignment. If AI use is prohibited, use the textbook and teacher’s guidance instead. At the end of practice, let the child explain one idea without the screen. That small check helps distinguish learning from simply completing more pages.
