What is APAAR ID, and is it compulsory?

हिंदी में पढ़ें

APAAR is a 12-digit student ID linked to digital education records. The consent form linked on the official portal describes it as voluntary and gives parents a choice to agree or refuse. Before signing, understand what information will be shared, check your child’s details and keep a copy of your decision.

For example, a form comes home with only a box saying “I agree.” You can ask the school to show you the current official form and explain both choices before you sign. A forwarded message is not a substitute for reading the form.

What will the ID do, and what choice do you have?

APAAR is connected with education records and DigiLocker, the government’s service for digital documents. It is separate from your child’s class roll number. S03: APAAR questions and answers

The official form says parents may agree or refuse. It also has a separate, optional choice about sharing information with other organisations. According to that form, refusing will not affect admission, promotion to the next class or government benefits. It includes a way to request a later change or withdrawal of consent. Read the current form itself before choosing. S04: Official consent form S29: Official APAAR forms

How can you choose after understanding the form?

Ask for an explanation in a language you understand. Read each option before signing, keep a copy of the completed form and check that the recorded choice matches your decision. A form should not arrive with your choice already assumed.

Ask who will receive the information, who can correct a mistake and where to send a later request. The privacy policy explains how information is kept and shared with connected services. Asking to withdraw consent does not mean every record already created will immediately disappear. S05: APAAR privacy policy

The linked form mentions Aadhaar or another government-issued identity document, called PIC in the form. The portal’s questions and answers still explain a process using Aadhaar. Ask the school office how the other-document option works in the current system; the form and the online screens may not yet match. S04: Official consent form S03: APAAR questions and answers

What should you check before the form is submitted?

  • Check the child’s spelling and date of birth against reliable documents.
  • Ask which consent-form version the school is using.
  • Leave optional consent to your own decision, after reading its purpose.
  • Ask for the acknowledgement and, if generated, a way to confirm the correct record.
  • Do not share DigiLocker passwords or OTPs in a class messaging group.

What should you check with the school?

Ask whom to contact at school, how to send the form and which current state instructions apply. This article gives no nationwide last date. If a local deadline is mentioned, ask how it fits with the choices on the official form.

Will APAAR automatically guarantee a scholarship?

Do not treat an ID as an award letter. Ask for the separate scheme’s eligibility and current application rules.

Can I ask questions before deciding?

Yes. Bring the form and ask for a clear explanation of its options and the steps for recording your choice. Keep the conversation private and focused on your child’s record.
